Vampires have been "discovered" and are actually legal citizens of the United States of America. Have been for four years, now. The legalization gave birth to new factions within the Far Left and the Far Right. The Far Left is against vampires; because the Far Left lobbies against vampires, the Far Right campaigns for them. Those caught in the middle just want to get on with their lives. And strangely enough, the vampires are actually making an effort to follow the laws and retain their newly found freedom. The "discovery" of vampires happened shortly after preternatural creatures of various other natures were discovered back in the '90s. In response, the government set up the Regional Preternatural Investigation Taskforce [RPIT] - a branch of police solely for the purpose of enforcing the preternatural community. In the northern city of St. Kieran, Wisconsin, the people are only semi-aware of what they live side-by-side with. Spread over 2,000 square miles, the city boast a population of over 400,000.
